Does a festival date mean a public holiday? Check the distinction

Separate a Chinese lunar festival's Gregorian date from official holiday arrangements and your actual gathering or booking date.

On this page

A festival lookup can tell you the Gregorian date and weekday corresponding to a defined Chinese lunar festival. It does not, by itself, determine whether every person or organisation has a day off. Festival dates, official holiday arrangements and family activity dates should be recorded separately before planning leave, travel or a booking.

Know what a festival conversion answers

Mid-Autumn is associated with lunar month eight, day fifteen; Dragon Boat Festival with month five, day five. For a selected year, conversion locates those dates in the Gregorian calendar. The calculation does not establish each region's holiday schedule, substitution arrangements or a particular employer's operations. A date falling on a weekend does not supply those missing rules automatically.

Keep three separate fields

Record the festival's full Gregorian date, weekday and original lunar condition. In a second field, record any applicable holiday arrangement and its year and source. In a third, record the family's chosen activity date, time and place. A meal on a convenient earlier weekend need not be mislabelled as the festival's actual date, and different work schedules can remain visible.

Check the year before reusing a reminder

A fixed lunar month and day generally moves on the Gregorian calendar from year to year. Do not take last year's Gregorian festival date and simply update its year number. An image without a stated year is not enough to plan this year's occasion. The site's festival overview currently covers 2026–2028; that product range is distinct from the broader verified lunar conversion range.

New Year's Eve is not always lunar day 30

Chinese New Year's Eve is the final day before the new lunar year. Depending on the actual month length, that date can be day 29 or day 30. A useful check is to find the first day of the new lunar year and move back one day. This identifies the calendar relationship; it still does not tell you the start and end of a holiday period.

Verify a result with another view

Select the year and festival in the festival lookup, then enter its Gregorian result in the date converter. Confirm the lunar year, month, day and leap status. The Hong Kong Observatory conversion tables cited as sources support calendar checks, not a claim that this site has verified all Singapore leave arrangements.

Confirm the real-world plan separately

Check the applicable official or organisational schedule and the availability of participants before agreeing an activity. For a venue, also confirm opening hours, the booking time and any change conditions. A local event may be held before or after a festival without either date being wrong. Use clear labels when sharing the plan. If you need a working-day interval, read the working-day distinction instead of excluding every item in a traditional festival list.
